Do you think investing in a City's cultural heritage can help boost its regeneration?
The ONE HULL Tag Team project was aimed at encouraging young people from Hull into employment and education.
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race adventure was seen as an amazing incentive to engage, which also offered a real opportunity to broaden young horizons.
The scheme challenged a large group of young people aged 18 to 25 to take part in a three-day selection event. Ten successful candidates then proceeded onto the Clipper Training Programme.
From September 2007, passing through 14 ports in 5 continents, the members of the ONE HULL Tag Team will each complete a leg of the race, travelling a combined total of 35,000 miles.
They will carry with them a special Wilberforce Petition to be handed over at a special ceremony at the end of each major leg. From Durban, in South Africa to Fremantle, in Australia - international dignitaries from across the globe will sign the pledge – stressing that modern-day slavery still exists today – and young people from Hull are playing their part to highlight this fact 200 years on.
