Earning Strategic Delivery Partnership

Hull is a unique City with a proud history. Individuals and organisations from all sectors agree that there is a strong foundation on which to create an exciting and prosperous future.

This is captured in Hull Forward’s City Centre Masterplan, of which the Humber Quays, St. Stephen’s and Paragon Interchange have already been completed. Further progress with Quay West and the Fruit Market will build upon this existing success, which will encourage continued inward investment into the City.

Hull’s infrastructure is also changing. Hedon Road has been completely changed to enable a more efficient flow of traffic to and from the port, and to give visitors entering the ‘Gateway to Europe’ a better idea of what this City has to offer.

We recognise that Hull needs a larger and more competitive economy if it is to have a successful long-term future. Without new business start-ups and inward investment in years to come, and the jobs this creates, we will be limited in our ability to reduce poverty, improve health, and provide opportunities for local people from all backgrounds.

Having a steady, rewarding and well-paid job can have positive effects on people’s quality of life. Employment can improve people’s health and wellbeing and can lift families out of poverty. One of the main aims of the Sustainable Community Strategy is to provide quality jobs for the people of Hull - generated by a thriving and growing economy.

This is the objective of the Earning Strategic Delivery Partnership of ONE HULL (SDP), which is responsible for the following areas and focuses its resources on delivering improvements in:

Achieving these aims will help to:

More specifically, resources are focussed on delivering improvement targets which are set and agreed with Government in Hull’s Local Area Agreement 2 (LAA2).

Earning indicators in Hull’s second Local Area Agreement are:

The work of the Earning SDP does not stand in isolation. It is only one part of the overall ONE HULL Vision. In addition, there are three other SDPs whose remits are to deliver the health and wellbeing, crime reduction and children and young people’s aims and objectives of the Sustainable Community Strategy.

We recognise the importance that no-one must be excluded or treated unfairly because of where they live, their race, age, sex, religion, sexuality or disability. The Partnership also recognises that carrying out our work will ultimately have an impact on the City’s cultural offering, particularly through physical regeneration, and also affect resident’s lifestyles and choices. We are committed to ensuring that our work does not impact negatively on the environment and that the implications of our work – regarding climate change issues - are considered.

The Partnership aims is to make Hull one of the most ‘business friendly’ cities in the country and help improve the quality of life for local people - and that by 2011, we will have created an environment within the City that encourages business, provides jobs and allows people to find more employment easily. We will have increased people’s access to better skilled jobs and the higher wages that these jobs will bring to the City.

By achieving our Earning aims, along with the rest of the Sustainable Community Strategy, we will create a vibrant and thriving economy which will make Hull an attractive place to work, do business and spend leisure time.    By doing this, we aim to make Hull a city where quality, well-paid jobs are available to residents and which provide the working population with a sufficient level of income to ensure a high standard of living and quality of life.  We also aim to make Hull a city which has a highly skilled workforce which will help ensure that where new job opportunities become available, local residents are best placed to be able to take these.

We are committed to developing the full potential of the City and its people, addressing inequality and promoting social inclusion. Through the delivery of the Sustainable Community Strategy, we will actively promote diversity and the benefits diversity brings. We will also seek to ensure that Hull is recognised nationally as best practice in relation to equalities and diversity work.
